NSW: Man arrested over strangulation murder

SYDNEY, April 13 AAP - A 27-year-old man faced court today charged with the murder of
street prostitute Paula Bonacina near Wollongong last week.

Robert John Ebner, of Bank Street in Wollongong, appeared briefly in Wollongong local court
today over the April 3 strangulation of Ms Bonacina.

Legal Aid solicitor Tim Phelan made no application on behalf of his client and no facts
about the incident were tendered to the court.

Ebner was apprehended by tactical operations police yesterday. He was charged by strike
force Natal detectives at 1.30pm today and appeared in court about two hours later.

The clothed body of the 27-year-old mother of two was discovered in an industrial area less
than 3km from her Unanderra home early on Sunday, April 4.

Detectives said she had been strangled before being driven to Nolan Street - a cul-de-sac
leading to a hardware store - and dumped from a car.

Ms Bonacina was last seen alive near her Albert Street home the day before her body was
found.

Mr Phelan told Magistrate Jennifer Giles the police brief of evidence would take about six
weeks to compile.

Police prosecutor Ron David said Ebner was to attend court this Friday for other unrelated
matters.

Ebner was remanded in custody. The murder charge and the other unrelated charges have been
adjourned to April 29.
